I saw a dream, it shone so bright, that I thought nothing could ever dim it.
I watched it flourish, root and thrive, with every certainty, I thought it would survive.
But then, every blossom invites attention, every beautiful flower tends to get plucked.
So, it happened that they came knocking, the devourers, I call them.
I saw Innocence get corrupted,
Light and glimmer, get dimmer, and slowly devoured by shadows,
Until it was as though it was never there.
I watched powerlessly as the rot sipped into the roots of it.
It fought, it resisted, it tried to stay strong, but against such waves, against the many faces of them, it never stood a chance.
Just like many before, it now sits on forgotten sand, broken and lost.
Emmalase.
